    It looks like winter has a grip on us for the next few months. So now that you are stuck inside.....make the most of it!  Whether you are thinking of moving or not, we all need to downsize. Maybe you will be moving in the next few months or years. Then it is all the more important for you to start downsizing today. What are those items you no longer need but children and/or grandchildren have asked for someday from you? Get the family together and share your stories as you pass on your treasures.  The family will be thrilled to hear your story.

    Don't let the dark, bitter cold winter days get you down. When Spring finally gets here, you will be glad you already have a good handle on the downsizing process. It takes time but downsizing is very rewarding to everyone.

    AMEC and Nations Title want to bring to you an early week mixer . No better
    place to enjoy a cold one or a glass of wine while socializing with others in the
    business. We will be hosting this every other Tuesday through the Summer
    months. Should the weather get in the way we will meet inside at the Boathouse
    Bar on the Edgewater grounds. With the market as crazy as it is a couple hours
    away only brings more the next day. Every other Tuesday we will have a new
    theme. Being this is the first social hour it's all about seeing new and old faces

    The directory is great. I needed a lender in a small specific geographic area near my buyer’s work place. I do not remember names, faces and locations as well as I would like. So seeing profile pictures helped me. Please make sure you have a picture in your Women’s Council of Realtors profile. It helped me to make a business referral. Hiam

    Well...the first Business Resource Luncheon of the year is complete. Had great attendance...good speaker to start the year off. The focus this year is building your business through WCR. You should look no future than to our members for all your Real Estate needs. We have incredible members with tons of knowledge to share and business experiences. I am always available to chat about WCR and where we are going. I am working on a 5 year plan...not just the year I am President. My goal is to grow our Chapter numbers. To be an organization that others look to for information, guidance and knowledge. I know with us working together...we can accomplish it all. To a great 2012...get involved it is so worth it.

    Yesterday afternoon, our chapter hosted speaker Allan Dalton.  Allan has an impressive resume, including his current role as CEO of Marketing for RIS Media, President of and over 30 years of experience in the business.   

    I recorded this short video clip of Dalton's view on Listing Presentations and how we as industry do not convey ourselves in the best light, often celebrating when the next agent passes his Quick Start class.  When he begins to break it down and we think about it, there really isn't an industry out there where a "Quick Start" program would imply trust and expertise.  Here's what he has to say:

    In short, Allan's message is this: stop being lazy with the things that you say to your clients because it does have an impact.  Slight changes in syntax between "Listing Presentation" and "Marketing Presentation", "Buyers Market" and "Opportunistic Market" does make a difference to the clients we serve. 

    Did you catch that? Clients we serve.

    Dalton would suggest that we don't serve our consumers at all.  That we have become an industry wrapped up in gaining listings, reducing prices, and getting commissions - all without thinking about the consumer.  We need to get back to the marketing basics and become an industry where our services add value to our client's lives.   Real Estate Agents need to become expert marketers to connect buyers and sellers and get properties sold.  That's what our clients care about.

    Personally, I enjoyed his presentation.  His challenge for our industry is big but starts with small steps.  As a  contributor to our Bunbury & Associates blog, it has really brought to mind the way we communicate with our clients, that our words DO matter.  Real Estate has been known as a profession without a strategic plan, and our country's economic situation has brought this into light.  We need to get organized, get marketing, get out there, and think like our consumers.

Home sale in Dane County finished the summer of 2017 very strong - matching the number of sales reported last August during the record-setting year.

This follows a strong month of July and narrows the year-to-date sales gap between 2017 and 2016 to just 2.7%.

The entire SCWMLS reported sales up 1.5% for the month and are not only 1.2% fewer year-to-date.
